Tilt Bar Styles for Shutters

Hunter Douglas shutters are always an excellent choice for your home’s windows. They have timeless appeal and look outstanding in every decor and style of home. Once you’ve chosen the material, color, and louver size, you must select a tilt bar style. The most common options are front and rear tilt bars, and the Shelly’s Interior Concepts team can help you decide on the right tilt bar style for your home’s shutters.

Front Tilt

When you picture interior shutters, you probably picture ones with a front tilt bar. This classic look, prevalent in traditional, farmhouse, and cottage-style decors, features a tilt bar that runs down the center of the shutter panel. Front tilt bars are very user-friendly and require only a gentle motion to adjust the louvers. As with all moving parts, front tilt bars are subject to wear and tear and may not be the best choice if you have young children or pets. Guests unfamiliar with shutters may also mistake the tilt bar as the way to open the panel, which can cause damage. A front tilt bar comes standard on all Hunter Douglas shutter models, including Heritance® Wood Shutters, Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters, and NewStyle® Composite Shutters.

Rear Tilt

A rear tilt bar offers a clean, modern aesthetic and is excellent for minimalist decor. Shutters with a rear tilt bar work and function the same way as front tilt varieties, but the tilt bar is located behind the shutter. All of the louvers adjust in tandem when you move a single one. Shutters featuring the TruView™ Rear Tilt are also easier to clean since they lack the center rod. The TruView™ Rear Tilt system is an upgrade available on all Hunter Douglas shutter styles.

Hidden Tilt

It may sound too good to be true, but shutters without a tilt bar exist, and we love them. The HiddenTilt™ system eliminates the tilt bar to give you the most natural light and cleanest aesthetic. You need only gently sweep your hand up or down the shutter to open or close the louvers. Shutters without a tilt bar are easy to maintain and have fewer parts, so the odds of breaking decrease. You can request the HiddenTilt™ system with Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters. Vinyl shutters also resist damage from heat and moisture, so combining the material with the HiddenTilt™ system gives you one of the most durable shutters available on the market.
